Larval development, stages and an international comparison of husbandry parameters of the Vietnamese Mossy Frog Theloderma corticale (Boulenger, 1903) (Anura: Rhacophoridae)

Abstract: We describe the larval development and stages of the locally threatened Vietnamese Mossy Frog Theloderma corticale, which is endemic to northern Vietnam. Diagnostic morphological characters are provided for Gosner (1960) larval stages 1-46. This is to our knowledge the first larval staging for the rhacophorid anuran genus Theloderma in general. As guideline for further breeding engagement with Theloderma representatives in an international scale, based on the species T. corticale as husbandry analogue, we further oppose larval development, captive reproduction and husbandry management both achieved under tropical conditions at the Amphibian breeding station of the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources in Hanoi (Vietnam), and in Europe, at the amphibian breeding unit at Cologne Zoo (Germany). Observed ovipositions at Cologne Zoo took place from March to September and were initiated after increase of temperatures and humidity (increased spraying) subsequent to a hibernation phase in combination with raised water levels. The developmental time observed for T. corticale at 20°C was about 4.5 months. For providing a recent captive management overview, we furthermore compare our husbandry experiences and data on the reproductive biology of T. corticale with data from the literature.
Implementing Mobile Crawler Using JINI Technology to Reduce Network Traffic and Bandwidth Consumption

Abstract: To search any information on the web users extensively use the search engines. As the growth of the World Wide Web exceeded all expectations, the search engines rely on web crawlers to maintain the index of billions of pages for e cient searching. The web crawlers have to interact with millions of hosts and retrieve the pages continuously to keep the index up-to-date. According to literature survey, most of the network traffic and bandwidth is consumed by web crawlers so instead of using them, we are proposing mobile crawler developed using JINI technology with the help of remote page selection, filtration and compression at web servers and not search engine.

Abstract: In real life applications number of document contains printed as well as handwritten numerals in a singledocument. The process of recognition of such mixed numeral with respect to single OCR is complicated task. In this paper,we present a novel method for recognition of printed and handwritten Isolated Kannada numerals using single OCR system.We considered Directional Stroke and Directional density based feature for recognition system is proposed. The proposedsystem extracts Directional stroke on various angles and Directional density/profile on four side of the numeral image.Further, the stroke and density based extracted feature is feed for recognition systems. A Euclidian distance criteria and k-NN classifier is employed to classify the numeral class. A total 5000 numeral images, which includes 4000 for handwrittenimages and 1000 for printed images considered for experiments and overall accuracy found to 98.04%. The novelty of theproposed method is thinning free, and without size normalization.
Tri-scripts handwritten numeral recognition: a novel approach

Abstract: In this paper an automatic recognition system for isolated handwritten numerals recognitionfor three popular south Indian scripts. Kannada, Devanagari, and Telugu numeral sets are used for theirrecognition. The proposed method is thinning free and without size normalization. The structuralfeatures viz. directional density of pixels, water reservoirs, maximum profile distancess, and fill holedensity are used for handwritten numerals recognition. A Eclidian distance criterion and K-nearestneighbor classifier is used to classify the handwritten numerals. A total of 5250 numeral images areconsidered for experimentation, and the overall accuracy of 95.40%, 90.20%, and 98.40% for Kannada,Devanagari and Telugu numerals respectively are achived. The novelty of the proposed method isthinning free, fast, and without size normalization.
Transient hyperammonaemia in an adult German shepherd dog : case report

Abstract: A 3-year-old male German shepherd dog was presented with severe generalised seizures. The dog was protein-intolerant and showed severe hyperammonaemia on ammonia stimulation. The hyperammonaemic state was present for at least 6 weeks and then spontaneously resolved. No obvious cause (liver disease, portocaval shunts, urea cycle enzyme deficiencies, drug therapy or urinary tract obstruction) could be identified. It is possible that this dog had a variation of transient hyperammonaemic syndrome, described in man and recently in a juvenile Irish wolfhound, that extended into adulthood.

Abstract: A total of 125 out of 307 (41%) chicks belonging to the indigenous breed of chickens under free-range management died in the first three months of life with most chicks being lost in the first month. The main cause of chick mortality was predation mostly by dogs but also as a result of inclement weather especially during the cold weather season. It is imperative that brooding should be provided to curb these chick losses and adequate housing should be provided for the hens so as to protect the young chicks from predation.

Abstract: o presente relato descreve um caso de colesteatoma ovariano em uma cadela yorkshire de 15 anos de idade. o diagnóstico clínico foi de piometra e o animal foi submetido a ovariosalpingohisterectomia. o ovário esquerdo apresentava-se aumentado de volume (4 x 3 x 2cm), firme e esbranqui?ado. histologicamente havia grande número de cristais de colesterol, com acúmulo de macrófagos e algumas células gigantes multinucleadas. a les?o resultou em compress?o do córtex ovariano adjacente que n?o continha nenhuma estrutura funcional, como folículos e corpo lúteo. o ovário contralateral n?o apresentava nenhuma altera??o e continha múltiplos corpos lúteos.
Modeling energy and reproductive costs in caribou exposed to low flying military jet aircraft

Abstract: We used simulation modeling to estimate the effect of low-flying military jet aircraft on the productivity of caribou. The base model (CARIBOU, CWS Whitehorse, Yukon Territory) uses daily intake and expenditure of energy to assess the condition of female caribou throughout the annual cycle. The activity budget of the model caribou was adjusted based on field observations of responses to noise disturbance. A subroutine was added that predicted the likelihood of conception based on fall body fat weight. Caribou responses to overflights were evaluated by equipping free-ranging caribou with radio collars and activity sensors that could distinguish between resting and active periods. Collared animals were exposed to 110 overflights by A-10, F-15 and F- 16 jet aircraft during late-winter, post-calving and the insect season. Noise exposure levels for individual animals either were measured directly with collar-mounted dosimeters or were estimated based on the proximity of the caribou to the aircraft during the overflight. A Time-averaged Sound Level (LT) was calculated from the total daily noise exposure for each animal and linear regression was used to evaluate the influence of daily noise exposure on daily hours spent resting. Results of these analyses then were used to modify the time budgets in the CARIBOU model. That is, if time spent resting declined, then time spent in the two rest classes (lying and standing) were proportionately redistributed into the three active classes (foraging, walking and running). Model simulations indicated that caribou increased forage intake in response to increased noise exposure, but it also predicted that increased noise exposure would cause a reduced accumulation of body fat. Because body fat in fall has successfully been used to predict the probability of pregnancy (see Gerhart et al, 1993), this relationship was used in the model. Preliminary model simulations indicate that increased noise exposure decreases the probability of pregnancy and that unfavorable environmental conditions (e.g., deep snow and severe insect harassment) exacerbate the situation. The threshold at which point the caribou fail to conceive has not been determined at this time, but appears to be well beyond the exposure to aircraft that caribou in the Delta herd are currently experiencing.
Theoretical calculations of infrared, NMR and electronic spectra of 2-nitroso-1, naphthol or 1-2 naphthoquinine-2 oxime and comparison with experimental data

Abstract: The geometry of the 2-nitroso-1,naphthol in solid state and 1-2 naphthoquinine-2,oxime in solution have studied by employing Hatree Fock ab initio calculations using 6-31G* level. IR wave number of 2-nitroso -1, naphthol is calculated and compared withexperimental date. Further, 1-2, naphthaquinine-2, oxime in solution, NMR chemical shiftsof 1H and 13C are calculated by HF method and 6.31 G* level, experimental data wascompared. Electronic spectra were also calculated and compared with experimental data.These results are discussed in detail in this work
