Visibility and Citation Impact
Nader Ale Ebrahim, Hadi Salehi Embi, Mohamed Amin Habibi Tanha,Farid Hossein Gholizadeh Motahar, Seyed Mohammad
International Education Studies , 2014, DOI: 10.5539/ies.v7n4p120
Abstract: The number of publications is the first criteria for assessing a researcher output. However, the main measurement for author productivity is the number of citations, and citations are typically related to the paper's visibility. In this paper, the relationship between article visibility and the number of citations is investigated. A case study of two researchers who are using publication marketing tools confirmed that the article visibility will greatly improve the citation impact. Some strategies to make the publications available to a larger audience have been presented at the end of this paper.
Economic Impact of Clinical Research to Research Centers and Opportunity Cost for the Reimbursement System in Turkey  [PDF]
Güven? Ko?kaya, Meral Demir, P?nar Daylan Kockaya, Mehtap Tatar, Ali Ya??z üresin
Health (Health) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/health.2015.79128
Abstract: Introduction: Clinical research is a key component of drug development with a significant economic value. It has been reported that the development of a new molecule requires 10 - 15 years and costs almost $1.3 billion. Around 75% of the cost is spent on the Phase I-IV clinical research process. This study aimed to show the economic value of clinical research in Turkey. Methods: Clinical trial budgets were estimated from the raw data of the Report of Istanbul Medical Faculty Clinical Research (ITFKAR). In the research, the estimated cost of drugs used in the clinical trials for the Turkish reimbursement agency (SGK) was calculated to show the cost of medicines acquired through clinical research. Results: The total budget for sponsored pharmaceutical research was $107 million in Turkey, and the government saved close to $311,096,130 during 2006-2010, due to not reimbursing the patients for the drugs in the clinical trials. Conclusion: Despite the limitations of the study, the findings are unique for Turkey. The results can lead to revisiting the importance and economic value of clinical trials in Turkey.
Colciencias e inconciencias con los científicos colombianos: de la Edad de Piedra al factor de impacto
Leon-Sarmiento,Fidias; Bayona-Prieto,Jaime; Bayona,Edgardo; León,Martha;
Revista de Salud Pública , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0124-00642005000200010
Abstract: writing has dramatically evolved in the world; however, qualification of scientific production in colombia has not, including the improper use of decree 1444/93 and 1279/02. the last of these decrees authorized colciencias, the colombian government institute created to support scientific research in colombia, to establish rules for its implementation. colciencias decided to evaluate scientific papers produced in colombia based on the non-scientific method of the "impact factor", and considered that citations in medline/pubmed and psyinfo were second line publications thus violating colombian law. this affects not only the progress of scientific research in colombia but also researchers' income and puts colombia's scientific journals and publications at great disadvantage. scientific papers indexed in qualified databases such as medline/pubmed must be judged according to law in order to prevent further injuries to the developing colombian scientific production.
Conceptual frameworks and empirical approaches used to assess the impact of health research: an overview of reviews
Rita Banzi, Lorenzo Moja, Vanna Pistotti, Andrea Facchini, Alessandro Liberati
Health Research Policy and Systems , 2011, DOI: 10.1186/1478-4505-9-26
Abstract: We systematically searched the relevant literature (PubMed, The Cochrane Library (1990-2009)) and funding agency websites. We included systematic reviews, theoretical and methodological papers, and empirical case-studies on how to evaluate research impact. We qualitatively summarised the included reports, as well the conceptual frameworks.We identified twenty-two reports belonging to four systematic reviews and 14 primary studies. These publications reported several theoretical frameworks and methodological approaches (bibliometrics, econometrics, ad hoc case studies). The "payback model" emerged as the most frequently used. Five broad categories of impact were identified: a) advancing knowledge, b) capacity building, c) informing decision-making, d) health benefits, e) broad socio-economic benefits. For each proposed category of impact we summarized a set of indicators whose pros and cons are presented and briefly discussed.This overview is a comprehensive, yet descriptive, contribution to summarize the conceptual framework and taxonomy of an heterogeneous and evolving area of research. A shared and comprehensive conceptual framework does not seem to be available yet and its single components (epidemiologic, economic, and social) are often valued differently in different models.It is widely accepted that research is a crucial investment to foster innovation, knowledge advancement, and social and economic development. For example a knowledge gain is assumed to result from biomedical and basic research; if such an output is then properly translated in a short but reasonable time lag, it will lead to a better health status for populations and patients. Much of the information produced is not easily transferable to patient care and this has led to the concept of the so called "translational blocks" [1]. Evidence produced by applied types of health research, such as the "comparative effectiveness" and "health services research" elicits its potential impact in a more str

The cultivation of undergraduates’ scientific research ability encourages undergraduates to enter the research field as soon as possible, and it is an important way to cultivate undergraduate talents with practice and innovation ability. Based on the process and current situation that undergraduate students carry out research training at home and abroad, through the curriculum system reform, improvement of the research training constitution, and strengthening incentives of participation, a long-term research and training system is built. Research interests and sense of innovation, project establishment and organizational skills, hands-on research, design and research cooperation, academic achievement skills and ability to communicate, constitute the basic content, training and other aspects of the system. At last, a specific implementation plan of research and training for chemistry majors in Fuzhou University is made.

The risk of erosion in Brazilian cultivated pastures
Sparovek, Gerd;Correchel, Vladia;Barretto, Alberto G.O. Pereira;
Scientia Agricola , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-90162007000100012
Abstract: pastures are normally associated with minor erosion problems because of their efficient soil cover. soil cover is without doubt the most effective inter-rill and rill erosion control practice. however, considering the frequency at which pastures are replanted in brazil and their enormous territorial extension (178 million hectares) we identify that extensive areas, usually covered by pastures, will remain bare, intensively tilled, and without complementary mechanical soil control practices. the pasture area is equivalent to that occupied by most important brazilian annual crops (corn or soybeans), that are usually cultivated under no-tillage or supported by governmental soil conservation programs. the precise assessment of these impacts, caused by the estimated 10 million hectares of the yearly replanted pastures is unknown, and there is lack of scientific knowledge to suggest an adequate solution. this is, probably, the greatest challenge of brazilian soil conservation and for an adequate resolution, will require a joint effort of researchers, technicians, educators and stakeholders.

Bibliographical research method for business administration studies: a model based on scientific journal ranking
Villas, Marcos Vianna;Macedo-Soares, T. Diana L. van A. de;Russo, Giuseppe Maria;
BAR. Brazilian Administration Review , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1807-76922008000200005
Abstract: this article proposes a three-stage method, with the use of multiple rankings as a starting point in the first stage to help carry out bibliographical research in a more effective and systematic fashion. the relevance of this method is made evident by way of a pioneer empirical investigation on the use and importance of scientific journal rankings as perceived by brazilian professors in the practice of bibliographical research in the field of business administration. the results suggest that, although there is an awareness of the importance of ranking as a criterion for bibliographical research, with a view to identifying the state of the art and relevant research gaps, ranking is in fact hardly used on a regular basis. it is believed that the proposed method can help overcome this problem and contribute to more effective literature reviews and research.
